The 1985 Rauzan-Ségla is a vintage that I have tasted several times from bottles I picked up cheaply some years ago

Even with all of its power

it feels cloying after a while

a mixture of red and black fruit laced with subtle marine/seaweed notes

the use of French oak has become more measured and the Barolos are now among the elite wines of the region in virtually every vintage

The flavor profile is at once lush yet precise with lovely purity to the lightly mineral inflected and subtly powerful finish that is beautifully well balanced and persistent.
