This cross replaced all previous level two awards for gallantry in action
Although the awards have been split fairly evenly across the Military and Civilians it is perhaps today more often awarded to Military Personnel
The OBE or Officer of the̴Ì_Most Excellent Order of the British Empire was instituted in 1917
without rank
Military Medal EIIR RAF Long Service The last award of aThe first awards of this MM were made during the Korean War although often awards announced in the name of The Queen resulted in a recipient recieving the medal with the head of King George VI. This award was ceased in 1993 as part of the review of the honours syetm and replaced by the Military Cross. The last award being made for Northern Ireland in that year, although other awards were announced later in the London Gazette these were all backdated.
